Top U.S. corporate solar users install more than 1 gigawatt of solar capacity

More and more companies are relying on solar to power their operations. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) recently released its Solar Means Business 2016 report that showed that the top corporate solar users in the U.S. have now installed more than 1 gigawatt of solar capacity.

What this translates to is enough power to provide energy to 193,000 homes.

Target ranked No. 1 with 147.5 Megawatts installed and 300 installations.

Here is the top 10, according to the SEIA.

1. Target (147.5 MW)

2. Walmart (145 MW)

3. Prologis (107.8 MW)

4. Apple (93.9 MW)

5. Coscto (50.7 MW)

6. Kohl’s (50.2 MW)

7. IKEA (44 MW)

8. Macy’s (38.9 MW)

9. GGP (30.2 MW)

10. Hartz (22.7 MW)

SEIA’s Interim President Tom Kimbis had this to say about the companies:

“Investing in solar is a common-sense decision that pays dividends for both the environment and companies’ bottom lines and these leaders deserve a big round of applause,” Kimbis said. “They’re not only helping to create thousands of American jobs in solar, the nearly 2,000 corporate systems highlighted in this report are generating enough clean electricity to offset more than 1.1 million metric tons of harmful carbon emissions a year.”

Residents in the Sacramento region can also be part of the clean energy/solar movement and save on their energy bill at the same time. The deadline for the Solar Investment Tax Credit is approaching. The credit that can be claimed on your federal income taxes is for 30 percent off the total cost of your PV system, after rebates and coupons have been applied. In order to qualify, you will need to have your PV system completely installed by December 2016. If you decide to go solar before Oct. 31, Aztec Solar can guarantee your installation by Dec. 31, allowing you to take advantage of the 30 percent federal tax credit.

A signed contract or project that’s underway won’t qualify for the credit; only completely installed and ready-to-use panels will qualify for the credit.
