The good news for solar keeps on coming.

A new report from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reports that the U.S. has surpassed 2 million solar PV installations. What makes this an even more astounding achievement is that the U.S. hit the 1 million installation mark just three years ago. The U.S. took 40 years to reach that 1 million installation milestone.

The amount of solar now installed in the U.S. is enough to generate electricity every year for over 12 million houses across the country.

Wood Mackenzie, who also helped with the report, predicts that in 2021, the U.S. will reach 3 million installations and hit 4 million by 2023. It is no surprise that California represented 43 percent of the installations over the last three years.

Sunny California has long been a leader in the solar industry, and Aztec Solar has been setting the standard for solar installations in the Sacramento region for nearly four decades. With some of the best installers in the industry, to go along with top-notch products, Aztec Solar takes pride in delivering satisfying customer experience.

That is because we believe in a sustainable energy future and enjoy giving homeowners and businesses the ability to take control of their energy production, and as a result, their electricity bill.

A new report is shedding light on the impact of adding solar panels to the top of U.S. schools could have on saving money and helping the environment.

The study, which was published in the journal Environmental Research Letters, found that if schools across the U.S. were to add solar panels to all of the eligible space they have on their roofs, they could meet around 75 percent of their electrical needs and decrease the industry’s carbon footprint by approximately 28 percent.

The cost savings there is pretty significant for educational institutions, and it is also something that could provide a big boost to the environment. The report states that schools across the U.S. make up 11 percent of all of the building electricity in the country. In addition, these facilities create 4 percent of the total CO2 that is emitted from the U.S., according to the report.

The report specifically identifies California, as well as Texas and Florida, as states that have the highest potential for generation. It also says the following:

“The provision of electricity services from rooftop solar PV on educational institutions could reduce health, environmental, and climate change damages by roughly $4 billion per year.”

There is obviously a big opportunity here for educational institutions across the country, including those in the Sacramento region. At Aztec Solar, we can handle large-scale installations such as these and would be happy to assist any school or school district looking to go solar.

If you have any questions about this or any other type of solar installation, don’t hesitate to contact us at 916.853.2700.

Solar energy continues to become more affordable as prices for solar panels continue to drop around the world.

The April World Economic Outlook from the International Monetary Fund, reports that solar and wind saw the largest decline in price among clean energy sources between the years of 2009 and 2017. Specifically, solar panels saw a 76 percent decrease in price. This was calculated using a “levelized cost of electricity” method, which comes up with a cost per unit of power. The report further states that in 2017, solar saw more investments than all other clean energy solutions combined.

The good news for solar just keeps coming. Here are a few other stats we recently shared:

  • Total installed U.S. PV capacity is expected to more than double over the next five years. By 2023, over 14 GWdc of PV capacity will be installed annually.
  • Solar energy is now more cost effective than coal and natural gas.

Now may be the perfect time for you to invest in solar. With the federal tax incentive for solar still in place and several local incentives available, installing solar is a good investment for Sacramento residents and business owners because it will lower their electricity bill and help preserve the environment at the same time.

California continues to be a leader in solar and clean energy.

In fact, the Golden State is breaking records in that regard. Earlier this month, California’s grid operator reported that for a brief time, the state was running off 93 percent clean electricity! That translates to 11,011 MWac of power from solar facilities to the grid.

With the number that high, it won’t be surprising if California soon hits the 100 percent mark. If that happens only for a small amount of time, it is an amazing accomplishment and a sign of the true power and potential of clean energy.

If you live in California, and Sacramento in particular, then you can be a part of this solar revolution we are living in. Sacramento is one of the sunniest areas in the world and with that comes high summer temperatures. To avoid the high-energy costs that can come with running an air conditioner a lot, many Sacramento residents and businesses are going solar.

The bill that would put more power in the hands of solar customers is making its way through the California Legislature.

The Solar Bill of Rights (S-288) requires that utility companies coordinate with independent system operators to reconfigure tariffs and remove things that stop participation in “customer-sited energy resources” in programs that are meant to deliver capacity, energy and ancillary services for bulk power systems. As a result, solar customers could store electricity and tap into the grid without fees.

The bill passed out of the state Senate’s Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee recently with a vote that was unanimous.

If it became law, the Solar Bill of Rights would help solar customers who obtain utility services through the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). It would also become the first piece of legislation of its kind to pass in the U.S.

The bill has wide support, from housing developers, to schools, to environmental groups, and of course from Aztec Solar.

See the bill language here.

Solar is a path to a more sustainable future and residents and businesses across the Sacramento region are going solar more and more. If you are interested in learning what solar can do for you and your electricity bill, contact one of our solar professionals at 916.853.2700.

Aztec Solar is pleased to see so many legislators in Congress pushing for long-term tax incentives for solar and other renewable energy sources.

Earlier this month, a letter was delivered to the House Ways & Means Committee that calls for support for clean energy and laid out how existing tax incentives have brought hundreds of thousands of jobs and growth to the economy. The federal tax credit for solar is 30 percent until the end of 2019. It then drops to 26 percent in 2020, and 22 percent in 2021.

In addition, the letter highlights the importance of investing in clean energy to help the environment and boost infrastructure.

There are so many reasons why solar is important to the economy, the environment and individual homeowners and business owners. It helps them take control of their energy production, lower their monthly electricity bill and do their part for the environment at the same time.

That is why so many Sacramento-area residents have made the switch to solar and used Aztec Solar to do so. At Aztec Solar, we have some of the highest quality products and customer service in the business.

If you would like to get started on your path to being part of the solar movement, contact us today.

It often feels like there isn’t enough time in the day as it is, and now you may have something else to worry about on a daily basis.

Many Sacramento County residents will see an increase in their electricity bills this month as a result of local utility companies raising time-of-use (TOU) rates. What this means is that you likely will be charged more for using electricity during peak hours (5-8 p.m.). So, when you get home from work, you will have to consider when you are using your large appliances if you want to keep your bill down.

If you are tired of your electricity bill going up and don’t want to add another thing to worry about on a daily basis, consider going solar. You can save by going solar in the following ways:

Instant Savings: You’ll see savings as soon as your solar panels start generating energy.

Financing: We have several options to choose from, including $0 down with low financing rates.

Monthly Bill: Your monthly payment will be lower than your monthly savings on your electric bill, which means you won’t ever need to plan your laundry days around peak electricity hours.

At Aztec Solar, our No. 1 goal is providing affordable energy solutions to Sacramento area residents. It just takes nine seconds to find out how much you can save by switching to solar.

If you’re ready to learn how solar can cut your electricity costs and allow you to take control of your energy production, give us a call at 916.853.2700!

California continues to lead the way in solar installations. That’s according to a new report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables.

The report, which was released last week, shows that the U.S. installed 10.6 GW in 2018. California led all states with more than 3.3 GW, ahead of Texas and North Carolina.

The report indicates that right now, there is enough solar active in the U.S. to provide energy for over 12 million houses. Further, U.S. capacity is expected to increase by 14 percent this year, and annual installations are predicted to hit 15.8 GW by 2021.

It is no surprise that California came out on top in 2018. The state takes solar seriously, which is demonstrated by the fact that the California Solar Rights Act was passed in 1978, and the Legislature is currently reviewing a Solar Bill of Rights.

Sacramento homeowners and businesses are also taking the benefits of solar seriously, and we are here to help! If you have any questions about installing solar, contact us at 916.853.2700.

More and more businesses in the Sacramento region and across the world are utilizing the power of solar to help protect the environment and decrease energy costs.

A new example comes in the air transportation industry. Airport operator Aena, which flew 280 million people in 2017, is investing more than $280 million in solar panels for 20 of its airports. The airline has an airport in the U.K., plus 46 more in Spain. The company expects such changes, in addition to what it is currently doing with renewable energy, to cut its emissions by 40 percent by 2025.

Decreasing energy consumption of airports is something that is much needed. Reports indicate that the average airport requires around 19.7 kilowatt-hours per square foot on an annual basis.

With large airports like this jumping on board with solar, it only provides more proof of its power. Think of what it could do for your home and decreasing your electricity bill. The hot summer of Sacramento is quickly approaching, so now is the time to start thinking about taking action!
