New research underway could result in the ability to use solar power to purify salt water.

The technology being tested includes a three-step system that boosts efficiency of the purification process. Here is how it works: The heat generated from the light that reflects off solar panels is put to use via a device attached to the underneath section of solar panels with “heat conduction layers.” The salt water is vaporized in one channel of the device, and condensed into fresh water in the second and third channels.

According to a report, the research team produced up to 1.64 liters of water for every square meter of panels per hour.

Imagine the potential for this if solar power could be used for this on a large scale, say for agriculture!

The potential with solar seems to be endless, with new ideas and concepts being created on how to harness the sun’s power almost on a weekly basis.

And that leads us to a question we ask often, yet remains true: If solar is changing how we function as a globally society, imagine what it could do for your small- to mid-sized business. By adding commercial solar to your company’s facilities, you could potentially save thousands of dollars every month on your electricity bill. At the same time, you will be helping preserve the environment and your customers and employees will take notice!

Aztec Solar has nearly four decades of experience in doing solar and only solar in the Sacramento region. We have a strong reputation and top-notch customer service, equipment and installers.

It seems like solar power has a positive impact in so many areas of our lives. Soon, it could change car-buying.

Toyota is currently testing an electric car that has solar cells attached to its hood, roof and back window. The result so far? A very efficient way of converting solar energy at a rate of 34 percent. The cells can produce 860 watts of energy and boost the car’s range by 35 miles.

Toyota isn’t prepared to say when such solar cells may be available to the public, but the company is testing it this month in Tokyo. The main benefit of the solar system is that it can power the car’s battery while the vehicle is in use.

Large companies, as well as small- to mid-sized businesses, across the world continue to test solar power’s capabilities by going the traditional route and adding panels to their buildings’ roof.

If you are a business owner in the Sacramento region you are in a great spot to take advantage of what solar has to offer. That is because this area is considered to have some of the sunniest summers in the world. What that means is energy independence, increased property value, monthly savings on your electricity bill (sometimes thousands of dollars) and helping the environment.

And to top it off, the Solar Investment Tax Credit is still good for a 30 percent deduction in 2019. Next year, it drops to 26 percent.

Aztec Solar has been doing solar and only solar in the Sacramento region for nearly 40 years. Over that time, we have handled a variety of commercial solar installations, from hotels, to schools, to multi-family solar and affordable housing solar. View some of our work here.

If you are interested in speaking with us about what solar could do for you, contact us today at 916.853.2700.

The solar industry continues to hit thresholds that indicate its strength and support across the country.

Over the first three months of 2019, the U.S. installed a record (for a quarter) 2.7 gigawatts of solar panels. This information comes from the U.S. Solar Market Insight Report, which also predicted that solar will see a 25 percent growth rate in 2019. In May, solar installations reached the 2 million mark.

The largest piece of installations over the first quarter of 2019 came from utility PV. It also noted that 4.7 gigawatts of large-scale solar projects are currently in development.

So, as you can see, many companies and industries are beginning to take advantage of the benefits of solar power. If you own a business in the Sacramento region, you could be doing the same. And there are a variety of benefits to doing so: saving on your monthly electricity bill (potentially thousands of dollars every month); helping the environment; showing your employees and customers that you are environmentally friendly; utilizing the Solar Investment Tax Credit, which is good for a 30 percent deduction in 2019 (in 2020 it decreases to 26 percent); increasing your property value and more!

The Sacramento region is one of the sunniest places on the planet, so it is a prime location to go solar. At Aztec Solar, we have been helping companies across the area with their solar needs for nearly four decades. We can handle pretty much any large solar installation, whether that is commercial solar, multi-family solar or affordable housing solar.

Last week we told you about a theme park that is going to be entirely operated off the power of the sun, and now an entire airport is being run off a solar farm.

Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport in Tennessee is now the only airport in the country to reach this mark. The airport sees more than 60,000 flights annually. The power it needs now comes from a 12-acre solar farm that generates 2.64 megawatts of power. In addition, there are batteries onsite that assist with maintaining power in the evening hours.

Aztec Solar applauds this accomplishment as it is yet another testament to the potential of solar power not only in terms of powering homes, but commercial solar generation as well.

Think of it this way: If solar can produce enough energy to power an airport, not to mention a theme park with 53 rides and a water park, just imagine what it could do for your business. With solar panels on your roof and possibly even over car ports in your parking lot, you could potentially save thousands of dollars every month on your electricity bill.

And keep in mind, the  Solar Investment Tax Credit is good for a 30 percent deduction as long you go solar in 2019. Next year, it drops to 26 percent.

At Aztec Solar, we have a long history of completing quality commercial solar projects in the Sacramento region. We have been in business in this area for nearly four decades and have built up a stellar reputation over that time period. To see some of our past commercial solar projects, click here.

A large amusement park on the east coast is being powered completely by the sun.

That’s right, solar energy is powering 53 rides and a water park at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. This is thanks to a solar farm that produces 23.5 megawatts (enough power to operate around 4,000 homes) from 60,000 panels! This theme park solar farm only comes in second to the size of the one that Walt Disney uses to power its Disney World park.

The panels are located on a large farm and on top of parking lot canopies.

In addition, the theme park has plans to generate excess energy that can be pushed back into the grid for other energy consumers.

With this kind of power production, imagine what solar could do for your business! By utilizing commercial solar in the sunny Sacramento region, your business could potentially save thousands of dollars every month on electricity costs. You would also be increasing the value of your property should you decide to sell it at a later time.

And best yet, the Solar Investment Tax Credit of 30 percent can be extended to most businesses who install solar. Keep in mind, however, that the Tax Credit will lower to 26 percent next year.

Aztec Solar can handle pretty much any commercial solar installation, from multi-family to affordable housing units. If you are interested in taking control of your company’s electricity bill and helping the environment at the same time, make sure you contact us today!

Businesses across the Sacramento region continue to take advantage of the cost savings associated with going solar.

Some business owners may have thought about commercial solar, but haven’t yet quite taken the leap. The longer a business waits, however, the more money they are unnecessarily spending on their energy needs.

If your business could use an extra injection of usable cash on a monthly basis, then commercial solar might be exactly what you are looking for.

Here are five reasons why you should consider going solar with your business.

  1. Cost Savings – As mentioned above, if you have a large facility, chances are you are paying a lot for energy every month. If you were to add solar panels to your building, you could potentially save thousands of dollars on a monthly basis.
  1. Increased Property Value – If you ever were to sell your property, it would likely be worth more if it came with solar panels that are owned outright. Basically, you are increasing your Net Operating Income (NOI) with solar energy.
  1. Tax Credit – Many businesses can use the Solar Investment Tax Credit this year, which offers a 30 percent tax credit at the federal level. In 2020, the Tax Credit will decrease to 26 percent.
  1. Helping the Environment – As a business owner, you will be doing your part to help our environment. This will give you an opportunity to spread the word about your new effort to utilize renewable energy sources in the media.
  1. Boost Employee Morale – Your employees will likely take pride in the fact that they work for a company that cares about the environment and reducing its carbon footprint.

At Aztec Solar, we have worked on various different types of commercial solar projects, whether it is commercial solar, multi-family solar or affordable housing solar units. With commercial solar, businesses and properties in the Sacramento region are doing their part to preserve our future, and that is why we are here to help in any way we can.

The city of Davis has taken admirable action toward preserving our environment.

The city recently voted to approve new regulations that require all new non-residential buildings, multi-family buildings and high-rises to have solar. These solar systems must be sized to account for about 80 percent of the electricity used at the site. This new requirement adds to a 2014 move by the city to require solar on all new single-family buildings within the city’s limits.

Davis has a plan in place to hit carbon neutrality by 2040. As of January, last year, the city got proof that is was headed in the right direction when it was reported that the city had hit 735 watts per capita of its population, which was higher than Honolulu, the previous leader.

Aztec Solar applauds the city of Davis for making such an investment in its future.

Speaking of investment, businesses across the Sacramento region continue to utilize commercial solar to save on their electricity bill and help the environment. We have helped with a variety of commercial solar projects, from multi-family solar, to affordable housing solar units. With commercial solar, businesses and properties can save potentially thousands of dollars every month.

When determining the right system for your business, Aztec Solar will take its time to review your energy needs, examine the amount of sun your building gets and how much space you have available for the panels to be installed, and come up with a comprehensive plan to set you on a path toward a more sustainable future.

Aztec Solar has been doing solar and only solar in the Sacramento region for nearly four decades. With that experience has come a wide range of commercial solar projects, which you can view here.

If you have any questions about commercial solar, make sure to contact us today at 916.853.2700.

You have probably heard that several large corporations like Wal-Mart and Target have gone all in on solar, but it is no longer just the biggest companies in the world taking advantage of the benefits of renewable energy.

Many small to mid-sized businesses across the Sacramento region are now enjoying the benefits of commercial solar. Solar can be a strategic investment that pays for itself and potentially even draws in more customers.

Any type of business – from office building solar, affordable housing solar, multi-family building solar – can save hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars a month on their electricity bill. With such savings, many businesses can expect the panels to pay for themselves in less than 10 years (depending on the size of the system).

To top it off, some current and potential customers may even decide to do business with you if they are aware that you are an environmentally conscious company. Not to mention that employees often take pride in working for a company that is forward thinking and innovative.

In addition, the Solar Investment Tax Credit is still available to many commercial solar customers, which is a 30 percent federal tax credit.

A solar system can be added to a company’s roof, or it can be ground-mounted. If the facility has a carport, it can also be installed on top of it. To determine how large of a system your business can install, it would be necessary for Aztec Solar to analyze your current power needs (a review of your electricity bills) and compare that to your utility rates, how much sunlight your facility gets every day and how much space you have for panels.

It is important to work with a solar company with a good reputation for quality products, good customer service and strong ethics. You get all of that when you go with Aztec Solar, which has been doing solar and only solar for nearly four decades in the Sacramento region. We stay up to date on all of the important safety and product regulations and make sure to meet local regulatory guidelines.

Considering our CEO, Ed Murray, is the president of the California Solar and Storage Association and serves on the Consumer Protection Committee of the Solar Energy Industries Association, it goes without saying that we take solar ethics seriously.

Make sure you check out some of our past commercial solar projects here.

If you and your business have questions about installing commercial solar, don’t hesitate to contact us today at 916.853.2700.

The good news for solar keeps on coming.

A new report from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reports that the U.S. has surpassed 2 million solar PV installations. What makes this an even more astounding achievement is that the U.S. hit the 1 million installation mark just three years ago. The U.S. took 40 years to reach that 1 million installation milestone.

The amount of solar now installed in the U.S. is enough to generate electricity every year for over 12 million houses across the country.

Wood Mackenzie, who also helped with the report, predicts that in 2021, the U.S. will reach 3 million installations and hit 4 million by 2023. It is no surprise that California represented 43 percent of the installations over the last three years.

Sunny California has long been a leader in the solar industry, and Aztec Solar has been setting the standard for solar installations in the Sacramento region for nearly four decades. With some of the best installers in the industry, to go along with top-notch products, Aztec Solar takes pride in delivering satisfying customer experience.

That is because we believe in a sustainable energy future and enjoy giving homeowners and businesses the ability to take control of their energy production, and as a result, their electricity bill.
