Amazon has once again demonstrated why it believes in going big.
The company known for Alexa and same-day delivery for just about any product is now delivering in a big way by installing Colorado’s largest single rooftop solar power array. It was installed atop Amazon’s massive robotics fulfillment center in Thornton.
The nearly 17,000-panel array extends 19 acres of roof and has the capacity to generate more than 6 megawatts of power. It goes online in November.
Amazon has put forward an ambitious solar energy plan. In 2017, the company said it would install solar energy systems at 50 fulfillment centers by 2020. The installation now means that Amazon can provide nearly 80 percent of the Colorado facility’s annual energy needs.
