Bipartisan legislation introduced to extend 30 percent federal solar tax credit

For nearly 15 years, residential and commercial solar customers have been able to take advantage of the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit. This program extends a 30 percent tax credit for solar buyers.

The credit is set to drop from 30 percent at the end of this year to 26 percent in 2020, then down to 22 percent in 2021 and 10 percent from 2022 and beyond.

Legislators are currently attempting to extend the 30 percent deduction by five years, however. The Renewable Energy Extension Act is a bipartisan piece of legislation in both the House and Senate intended to continue the success of the tax credit by supporting clean energy and economic development, while creating jobs. Since the Solar Investment Tax Credit began in 2005, it has generated $140 billion in private investment and boosted solar deployment by over 10,000 percent, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association.

Aztec Solar applauds these efforts as the Solar Investment Tax Credit extends many benefits to residential and commercial solar customers across the Sacramento region.

While we wait to see if this new legislation makes it through the next phases of the legislative process, make sure to take advantage of solar while the 30 percent tax credit is still in tact as is.
