Families and businesses overwhelmingly support solar tax credit extension

Families and businesses across the nation fully support the extension of the 30 percent Federal Solar Energy Tax Incentive, which could soon phase out.

Global Strategy Group, a leading public opinion research firm, found that 89 percent of voters would like to expand the federal tax credit that incentivizes clean energy installations.

The polling also showed support across the political spectrum. People also said they would be more likely to support a candidate who backed an extension to the tax credit, which offers a 30 percent rebate to consumers who purchase a solar system and installations for their residential and commercial properties.

But that rate is only good through the end of the year.

The credit drops to 26 percent in 2020, then to 22 percent in 2021 before it goes away for residential customers at the end of 2021.

The Solar Investment Tax Credit was introduced in 2006 and first extended in 2015.

Extending the tax credit would not only benefit homes and businesses it will also create tens of thousands of new, high-paying jobs, generate tens of billions of dollars of economic activity and substantially reduce carbon emissions.

It’s a total win for everyone.
