Solar owners continue to sell their unused power

Homeowners will continue to be able to sell unused power generated by their solar panels back to their utility company thanks to a recent decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

In a 3-2 vote by the CPUC, net metering was preserved and as a result, solar panel owners will continue one of the many ways their systems save them money. Yep, excess energy can earn you money if you are a solar panel owner.

But net metering isn’t the only savings option when it comes to solar panels. The Solar Investment Tax Credit is a 30 percent tax credit homeowners can earn in the year that their solar panels are installed. The federal government recently signed a bill to extend this tax credit until 2019.

And if that isn’t enough to convince you, the price of going solar has dropped by half over the last five years.
