Previously, we talked about the new Net Energy Metering, or NEM 2.0. Unfortunately, we still don’t have new information on how NEM 2.0 will work, but we do know you will want to make sure you are grandfathered into NEM 1.0.
When will we know what NEM 2.0 has in store for us?
NEM 2.0 plans are still up in the air right now. Plans are required to be finalized by the end of 2015. From what we’ve heard about the new plan, you will want to make sure you get your solar panels installed before NEM 2.0 begins.
When will NEM 2.0 start?
NEM 2.0 is set to start by July 2, 2017 or when the number of net metered generation hits 5%. We can’t know for sure when that will be, but at the rates we’ve been seeing, PG&E is predicted to hit that number by summer 2016.
One thing is for sure…
Though we can’t be for sure what NEM 2.0 will bring, we do know that NEM 1.0 is the better choice for solar customers. The good news is that you can still be grandfathered into the NEM 1.0 system. To do so, you’ll just need to have your solar panels installed before the NEM 2.0 deadline.
