Study: Permitting times for solar get shorter

A new study out of UC Berkeley found that permitting times for rooftop solar installations are declining.

The improvement is a credit to the collaboration between companies like Aztec Solar, permitting authorities, and policymakers.

Yet, there’s still room for improvement when it comes to streamlining the permit process.

We pride ourselves on being the go-to source for solar applications and services across Northern California through our excellent customer service and knowledgeable solar experts.

We will even handle the permitting process, so our customers aren’t bogged down with the details and piles of paperwork.

Most rooftop solar PV systems require at least one permit to ensure that the systems are installed in accordance with local, state, and national guidelines.

The study found that, on average, it takes 50 days at the median pace to complete the permitting process. However, durations vary by a wide margin, with about half of projects taking less than 27 days.

Don’t worry; the study was conducted across various states where permitting procedures look very different than California policy, where there’s a much shorter wait time for solar permits.

Local authorities and policies are helping shorten the projected permit times, especially in jurisdictions that are forward-thinking when it comes to environmentally friendly initiatives, the study found.

Although permitting is necessary, it can cause unnecessary delays. The last thing we want is for our customers to risk delays in enjoying the benefits of solar energy at their home or place of business.
