Amazon has become a world-leading company that represents innovation and success. So, when a company like Amazon launches a 1.1 MW solar rooftop installation on its North Las Vegas fulfillment center, corporations all over the world take notice.
Amazon is now one step closer to its goal of powering its global operations on renewable energy. The new solar rooftop installation boasts 3,145 individual solar modules on an 813,000-square-foot roof, according to Solar Industry. This is Amazon’s second Nevada solar installation and its 17th U.S. solar installation over the past 14 months.
Tom Chandlee, senior manager of Renewable Energy at Amazon, commented on the project and said:
“It’s exciting to see 17 of these solar rooftop systems go live in just over one year. These projects are important steps toward our renewable energy goal, and we hope they inspire our employees, customers and communities as we work together to bring more renewable energy online in the coming months and years.”
Amazon plans to install more solar arrays on its fulfillment centers in California, Maryland and New Jersey, and hopes for at least 50 more solar systems globally by 2020. Recently, the Solar Energy Industries Association named Amazon on their Top-10 list of corporate solar adopters.
Amazon’s solar installation initiatives and obvious commitment to renewable energy serves as an example of what other companies around the world should be doing, which is promoting sustainability and championing renewable energy projects that are good for the environment.
The message is clear, renewable energy, such as solar rooftop energy systems are here to stay. A company like Amazon, with thousands of brilliant minds, has committed to solar power and staked their future on it. If solar energy has the power to attract a company like Amazon, imagine what it can do for your home and your future.
