A plane that was recently revealed at the Payerne Air Force Base in Switzerland is expected to attempt the first solar flight around the world next year.
According to Yahoo News, the Swiss team behind the project says the plane “could remain in the air indefinitely.”
The plane has “batteries for storing energy soaked up from the sun by the 7,200 solar cells that cover its massive wings,” according to Yahoo.
The plane has a wingspan longer than a Boeing 747 jet and the trip is expected to take “20 flying days.”
As demonstrated by this Swiss team’s confidence in their plane, solar is a proven technology. If a plane can use solar energy to fly around the world, imagine what it can do for your home. Solar energy allows homeowners to save money and gives them energy independence at the same time.
