Solar investment tax credit decreased in 2020, act now before it goes away in coming years

The Solar Investment Tax Credit for residential and commercial solar projects dropped from 30 to 26 percent this year, and will continue to drop in the future.

The incentive for residential and commercial solar customers has dropped to 26 percent in 2020. It will decrease to 22 percent in 2021 and go away completely for residential in 2022 (it will remain at 10 percent for commercial in 2022). So, 2020 should be the year that you make the switch if you want to take advantage of the tax benefits.

When the solar credit was enacted in 2006, Aztec Solar envisioned a major new wave of solar energy adopters and believers of clean energy technology as a pathway to a brighter future. The Solar Investment Tax Credit became a powerful federal policy, an annual success story of jobs created and billions of dollars invested into the U.S. economy.

Since the tax credit’s arrival, the solar industry has grown by more than 10,000 percent, meaning more people have access to clean and affordable solar products and technologies, and more people reap the benefits.

The investment you make in the environment and the savings in utility costs alone are worth it. The substantial tax break is an added perk.
