Solar panels required for newly constructed homes in California beginning Jan. 1

For more than four decades, Aztec Solar has had the pleasure of working with thousands of people across Northern California to bring clean and affordable energy into their homes and businesses.

As a result, believers in clean energy are experiencing the power of solar firsthand, enjoying a decline to their utility bills and other benefits and uses, including hot water and pool heating applications.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, more people will experience the promise of solar energy through the state’s new requirement of solar power installations on new homes.

Legislation for new state building codes for solar collection panels on new construction projects was signed under Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration.

California becomes the first state in the nation to pave the way for clean, affordable energy in this impactful way. The California Energy Commission estimates that homeowners can expect to save nearly $20,000 in reduced energy bills.

Looking toward the future, homeowners who decide to buy a home in California can expect a higher return on their investment once they decide to sell.

This new requirement may also push annual solar installations by 44 percent, giving rise to a brighter future that allows more families to save hundreds of dollars a year on their utility bills, and help protect the environment from carbon emissions.
